Weight Loss Tips
For people struggling with their weight it may see like everyone around them is offering them weight loss tips. While this can be helpful it can also be more than a little overwhelming since it can be quite challenging to sort through them and find out what information is good and which is not. On top of that there are countless weight loss products out there that promise amazing results.
The reason that weight loss is such a point of emphasis for our society in general is that obesity if a huge epidemic in the world today. There are a lot of people alive right now that are overweight, and a good percentage of those people would actually be considered obese. This is what makes the weight loss industry so big and so profitable. There are literally customers everywhere for them that are desperate to drop the pounds they have packed on, and many are ready to try nearly everything.
This is why you have to be so careful when you are looking at weight loss plans or products that make incredulous claims. These are companies that are looking to capitalize on the desperation that many people who are overweight or obese feels. Appearance plays a huge role in society and a lot of what drives people to try to lose weight is so that they can look better. While you really should want to lose weight for your health, those in the weight loss industry drum up the importance of looking great, which gets people to try their plan or their product.
Now the fact that you are thinking about losing weight makes two points clear. First of all you realize that you have a problem. Second of all, and more importantly, you are looking for ways to fix this problem. Not everyone notices when their weight is becoming an issue, and if you don’t notice it then you can’t do anything about it. Maybe for you it was realizing that your jeans no longer fit. Or maybe someone remarked that you look like you gained weight. No matter what brought you to this realization the important thing is you are here, and you are ready to embark on your weight loss journey.
Chapter 1: What A Diet Is And Why Consistency Is So Important
The biggest contributing factor to the obesity epidemic today is the sedentary lifestyle that many people lead combined with a unhealthy diet. Human beings were not meant to sit at a desk for 8 hours, and then eat highly processed foods that are loaded with sugar and fat.
It’s this combination that is causing such a problem and anyone interested in losing weight needs to make modifications to their lifestyle before they even think about trying anything else. But as a society we are largely impatient. People don’t want to wait months or even years to get the results they want, they want them now.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news here but the truth is that there is no magic pill that is going to enable you to sit on the couch, eat junk food, and then still lose weight. There is no secret diet out there that is going to make a huge difference either. The reality is that once the average obese person realizes the mistakes they are making by not being active enough and bey eat unhealthy foods, and they change, they begin to lose weight.
See there’s no secret process or pill here, there is just choosing to live a better lifestyle.
Now with that being said there are some products out there that you can use to supplement your weight loss journey, and if you choose healthy ones then there shouldn’t be any negative impact on your health. The key here is to remember that these products are meant to supplement the other changes you are making, they will not do it all for you.
What this means for you, the person trying to lose weight, is that consistency is the key to success. You need to remember that it has likely taken you many years to gain the weight you have put on, so you can’t expect that you will lose it all quickly. You have to be patient, and even though you may want instant results you must remember that this is not the healthiest way to lose weight. You need to be patient and you need to put together a diet and exercise program that will help you to slowly lose the weight.
The key to succeeding here is to be consistent.
You can’t stick to your program for a few days, take a week off and eat junk food, and then go back to dieting. You need to be consistent everyday. Now does this mean that you can’t have some cheat foods every now and then? No, in fact having a cheat food once in a while can give you the mental break you need in order to stick to your diet.
One of the other things that is great about being consistent is that it will help you to develop a set of routines so that eating right and regular exercise become a part of who you are. It’s taken you a lifetime to develop the unhealthy habits you are currently living with, now it’s time to break them. It’s time to get up in the morning and have some oatmeal and put the donuts down. It’s time to get up and go for a jog instead of taking a nap. It’s time to change, you know it in your heart so don’t allow yourself to fail. Push yourself to develop healthy habits and over time it will get easier and easier for you to live a healthy lifestyle.
Chapter 2: Why A Natural Diet Is Better For You
When the time comes to start working on losing weight it’s important for you to remember that a natural approach is much better for you. There are a lot of short cuts out there that are being marketed to people who are desperate to drop weight, but who don’t want to put in the effort. I’m sorry but shortcuts are not the solution, if you want a better body you are going to have to eat right and workout on a regular basis. You need to remember that the people trying to sell you their product or plan are in it for the money, not because they care about you.
Instead of trying to rely on some type of product, or some fancy diet plan, keep it simple and get things back to basics. The diet of the average person is filled with highly processed foods that are loaded with sugars, unhealthy fats, and all types of chemicals that the average person couldn’t hope to pronounce. Does this sound like the foundation of a good diet to you? Of course it doesn’t. The really scary thing is that the chemicals and preservatives that are in these foods may have some negative impact on your health that we don’t know about. We think they are probably safe, but the truth is that long term exposure to these chemicals and preservatives has never really been studied.
Instead of continuing to potentially harm your body with these unhealthy chemicals you need to make a major change and start eating natural, unprocessed foods instead.
You need to start feeding your body the way that it was meant to be fed.
That means eating as many fresh fruits and vegetables and healthy protein sources as possible. It’s going to be a shock to your system but once you get used to it those foods are going to help you to lose weight and to feel your best.
Why Most Weight Loss Supplements Are Not A Good Idea
Most weight loss supplements use caffeine and other stimulants in order to boost your metabolism and help to burn off body fat. That probably sounds good, until you take the time to think about what those stimulants are doing to your body. Stimulants raise your heart rate, your breathing rate, and your overall metabolism. They also often cause you to fell jittery and can cause you to feel very nauseated as well. On top of those unpleasant side effects that are also potentially much more serious side effects you could experience, side effects that could have a major negative impact upon your long term health.
In fact the negative side effects that some diet supplements caused in the past proved to be life threatening. A very powerful stimulant called ephedrine was once very popular and used extensively in diet supplements. Sadly people lost their lives due to this powerful stimulant.
You may wonder how it is that a substance that proved to be so harmful was sold to the public, and the reason is simple, dietary supplements are not regulated by food and drug agencies. That means that there is no safety net, there is no government oversight that requires extensive testing before a supplement is released to the public.
Fortunately ephedrine is no longer readily available because once it’s deadly risks were proven it was taken off of the market. But the really scary thing here is that while ephedrine is now gone, who knows if the next potentially deadly stimulant is already being sold? The same lack of government oversight that allowed ephedrine to reach the market is still in place. So you have to ask yourself if it’s really worth risking your life to try a dietary supplement. Most people will tell you a firm no, and that’s why relying on dietary supplements for losing weight is a bad idea.
Why Surgery Isn’t The Answer
Taking a surgical approach to losing weight is quickly becoming a popular option for people that are in all honesty simply looking for the easy way out. If you don’t want to fix your diet and start exercising on a regular basis then why not go to a doctor and have some type of gastric bypass surgery? Well there are many reasons that should be obvious, but in case they are not I’ll be happy to explain.
First of all when you have some type of gastric bypass surgery done you are either having your stomach surgically shrunk, or you are having some type of device implanted to constrict your stomach. No matter which route you take the end result is the same, you have a smaller stomach. A smaller stomach means less eating, and you get full faster when you are eating. The problem here is that when your stomach can only hold a smaller amount of food than normal you are going to have to go out of your way to eat only highly nutritious foods. Well the problem here is that if you had simply committed to eating highly nutritious foods in the first place then you wouldn’t have even need the gastric bypass surgery. In other words even if you don’t like dieting you are still going to have to diet if you opt to have this surgery.
Another major reason you should avoid unnecessary surgery is the risk of infection. Yes modern operating rooms are very clean and the risk of infection is generally pretty low. But if you have ever had surgery you have probably been given an antibiotic afterwards. The reason is to ensure that if you do get exposed to bacteria during the operation the antibiotics should prevent an infection. But the problem here is that antibiotic resistant bacteria are becoming more and more common, which means that there’s a chance your gastric bypass surgery could cause an infection that cannot be cured with antibiotics. Suddenly you go from trying to lose weight to trying to fight for you life instead. Now that’s not what most people would consider fun now is it?
Why Extreme Diets Are A Bad Idea
If you want to shed a lot of weight quickly a crash diet will usually work for you. But does that mean you should try one out? Absolutely not. When you go on any kind of diet were you are not taking in many calories you put your body into a state of shock and force it to tap into it’s fat reserves. This facilitates weight loss, which could be a good thing if this wasn’t so hard on your body.
When you go on an extreme diet it can mess with your blood sugar, it will make you feel tired and sluggish, and it can have a number of other nasty effects that could impact you for a long time.
Do you know what’s even worse than the side effects an extreme diet can cause is? It’s the fact that even though you are going to endure the side effects in the end the diet is going to fail you. That’s because once you begin to eat normally again your body will try to replenish it’s fat reserves. Your hunger will be intense, and you will probably end up gaining back any weight you lost and then more weight on top of that. So not only are extreme diets hard on you, in the long run they don’t work.
It seems like every other week there is a new fad diet that uses extreme measures to get results. These new diets grab headlines and capture the attention of people who are obese everywhere. People respond by giving in to the hype and trying these diets. In the end just about everyone of these extreme diets boils down to extreme calorie deprivation. They look a little different, and they have different gimmicks of different kinds, but they all usually come down to basically starving yourself. So avoid these diets and the next time you are tempted to try a starvation diet remember that they are dangerous and they don’t work.
Chapter 3: Natural Diets You Should Try
If you are overweight then you are probably not as active as you should be, and you are probably not eating a healthy diet. What a lot of people don’t think about is the fact that the human body evolved over the course of thousands of years in order to eat a certain type of diet. That diet did not include soda and potato chips. In fact large amounts of carbohydrates of any type are not the kinds of foods that your body needs.
Your body should be fueled on lean protein, healthy fats, and limited amounts of carbohydrates.
Today most of the population eats a diet of highly processed foods that are loaded with simple sugars, preservatives, and saturated fats. The foods that are prepared in this way taste great, but their nutritional value is virtually non existent. These foods eating on a regular basis will lead to weight gain, and are also contributing factors in heart disease, diabetes, and many other health conditions associated with being obese.
Now you don’t have to give up these food altogether, there’s not a lot of harm in indulging yourself on occasion. What you have to remember though is that these are not foods that should be a regular part of your diet, they should be cheat foods that you eat once in a while to give yourself a mental break from eating clean and healthy all the time.
There are a lot of diets out there that tote the benefit of a low carb diet, and the reason for this is that this type of diet tends to be quite effective. But what you need to remember is that you don’t need a fancy diet plan. In fact you don’t need a diet at all, since a diet implies that it is a short term change in your eating habits.
What you need is to change your eating habits long term, and you need to stick to those changes.
Does that mean you can never have a piece of cake again? Of course not, but a piece of cake or other treat of that nature needs to be an occasional treat, not something you indulge in several times a week.
So what specific diets are worth trying?
The first that a lot of weight loss people will recommend is the Paleo Diet. The Paleo Diet is so named because those who follow it eat like our ancestors did. That’s right on this diet you eat like a caveman. Remember that cavemen were generally lean and healthy and a lot of that had to do with their diet. The beauty of the Paleo Diet is that it’s so easy to follow. If you are looking at a food and want to know if you can eat it, then there is a simple test. Is this a food that occurs naturally that our ancestors would have had access to? If not then don’t eat it. That means no dairy, no refined grains, and definitely no junk food.
The other diet is the Atkins Diet, named after a Doctor who touted the benefits of a low carb lifestyle. The Atkins Diet is much like the Paleo Diet in terms of what types of calories you end up consuming. With the Atkins Diet you are going to be eating a lot of healthy fats and protein as well, but unlike the Paleo Diet you won’t be restricted to only eating unprocessed foods. That means that on the Atkins Diet you can enjoy cheese and dairy products which for many people is a huge bonus. Dairy products are not only delicious, they also help to keep you feeling full which will keep hunger at bay.
What Is A Calorie Deficit And How Doe It Effect Weight Loss?
Your body runs on fuel in the form of calories. You get those calories from the food you eat. When you consume more calories than you use then your body stores the excess calories as body fat. When you use more calories than you take in then the opposite happens, your body taps into fat reserves for energy.
So in many ways a big part of dieting is finding a way to create a calorie deficit, and doing it in a way that doesn’t force you to starve yourself or feel terrible all the time. That’s why you can’t just focus only on cutting your calories, you need to cut the right kind of calories and then make sure that you are consuming the right kinds of foods. Once you figure out how to do this, while eating a reasonable amount of food, your body will shed the weight you are trying to lose.
Just make sure to keep in mind that you need to be eating healthy foods to fuel yourself on when you are starting to reduce your calorie intake. While healthy food naturally tend to be lower in calories you still need to pay attention to how much you are eating. I won’t lie to you here, once you make the decision to eat clean and cut out the bad food it’s going to be a little challenging at first. You are going to be tempted to sneak treats and to engage in other unhealthy eating habits. What you have to do is resist those temptations the majority of the time, and only give in to them once in a while when you feel that you really need that slice of chocolate cake.
When you are devising a diet that is designed to cut calories you need to make sure that you do not take the process too far. It is true that the higher the calorie deficit the more weight you will lose. But it’s also true that going too far will put your body into starvation mode, which in the end once you quit eating a reduced calorie diet will end with you gaining more weight.
It’s taken you years to gain the weight you want to lose. So you need to recognize this and then recognize that it’s going to take some time to lose the weight as well.
So don’t give in to the temptation of short term diet that greatly restricts your calorie intake. Instead make the decision to change your way of eating permanently and eat a diet that is lower in calories and higher in healthy and nutritious foods.
What Is Ketosis?
Ketosis is a metabolic state wherein your body burns fat instead of sugar for energy.
Most people are not aware of the fact that if you took equal amounts of fat and sugar and analyzed them that the fat would actually contain more energy than the sugar does. If you are able to drastically cut your carbohydrate intake while eating more meat and healthy fats, then over the course of a few days your body would begin to start burning fat for energy instead of the sugars that it no longer has access to. While this might seem like a strange way for your body to behave, growing evidence supports the fact that this is the way your body was meant to work.
If were to look at the diets of primitive humans you would discover that meat and fat were far more prevalent in their diets than any source of carbohydrates.
That’s because our primitive ancestors didn’t have access to refined sugar or grains. Instead they survived by eating plants and hunting animals. Now think about it for a moment and how often do you say cavemen being depicted as being fat? Never, that’s because they were much more active than we are, and they ate a diet that kept them in a state of Ketosis. That’s why low carb diets work, it’s because they get your metabolism to run the way that it was meant to.
One thing that is important to keep in mind when you are on a diet that promotes Ketosis, that is stopping all carbohydrate consumption is not necessary, and in fact it can be unhealthy. Your body is meant to be in a sate of Ketosis, but it is not mean to be completely devoid of carbohydrate consumption. All you need to do to achieve Ketosis is to cut your carbohydrate consumption down to a much lower level. When you do then your body realizes that it needs to turn to another fuel source, begins to burn fat, and then in a few days you exist in a state of Ketosis.
What Supplements Can Be Used To Help With The Weight Loss Process
If you decide that you want to increase the speed you lose weight at, and that you want to give yourself an edge, then there are several types of supplements that are generally considered safe that you can try.
One of those supplements if green tea. Green tea is not only loaded with healthy antioxidants, it’s also got a healthy amount of caffeine so it can help you to boost your metabolism. If you prefer sweeter tea then you can use a drop or two of honey instead of sugar to give it some more appeal. You may also want to consider taking it in capsule form since this may be more convenient.
You should also look into any types of supplements that can help you as you transition to a low carbohydrate diet so that you can reset your metabolism and reach Ketosis.
This can include any kind of teas you may want to try, and you should also look into trying some of the specialty foods that are designed to help you to reach a state of Ketosis. It can be really challenging to switch your way of eating, after all you have been eating the same way most of your life. Giving up cookies, sweets, and other treats of that nature can be very difficult. So why not make it a bit easier on yourself by eating substitutes for these foods that were designed to not interfere with your diet?
If you can have treats on a semi regular basis the feeling of sacrifice you have won’t be there. That will enable you to avoid cheating on your diet, which should allow you to remain consistent as you work toward your weight loss goals.
Another important supplement that we should all be taking are multivitamins. No matter how health you eat it can be a challenge trying to make sure you are getting all of the essential vitamins and minerals that you need in order to stay in great shape and protect your health. When the time comes to pick a multivitamin make sure that you read the label and that it provides a wide ranges of vitamins and minerals. You wouldn’t think it but those little pills can make a huge impact in how you feel.
Essential Oils Can Help
If you haven’t heard of essential oils they are basically super concentrated oils that contain different natural compounds from plants. If you have ever smelled a flower then you have experienced what an essential oil does. There are a lot of different essential oils out there and they can smell great while also having a powerful effect on the body was well. The good news here is that there are essential oils that have shown an ability to help people to lose weight.
By inhaling the fragrance of many types of citrus based essential oils you can help to quell your hunger which can enable you to avoid cheating on your diet. Have a sour stomach from your new diet? Then peppermint oil can be very soothing as can ginger essential oil. Just add a few drops to a cup of tea and you can have a powerful elixir that can make you feel much better quite quickly. Don’t discount the power of essential oils because in a battle to lose weight and reclaim your body you really can’t have enough firepower on your side.
Chapter 4: Diet Tips And Tricks For A Novice
Working Out Is An Essential Part Of Any Weight Loss Plan
Can you lose weight without taking part in an exercise plan? Sure you can, but you won’t be healthy, and the weight loss will take far longer than it would than if you were making regular exercise a focal point of your life.
You don’t have to live in the gym, or even go to the gym, but what you do have to do is commit to working out at a fairly challenging level at least 4 times per week. You don’t have to go to the gym, and you don’t have to put in marathon length workout routines. In fact you will probably be astonished at how much of an impact that a little exercise will have in your life.
Remember that your body is fueled by the calories from the food you eat? Well when you are trying to create a calorie deficit diet is a great starting point, but you will not ever reach your goals unless you are exercising as well. The more active you are the more calories your body will burn. So if you want to be able to eat more food while losing weight then regular exercise will allow you to do this. Look, dieting can be very challenging, and cutting down on the amount of food you normally eat can leave you feeling hungry. So why not increase the amount of food you can eat and still lose weight? Regular exercise will allow you to do this since it ups your calorie needs.
The Value Of Resistance Training In A Weight Loss Program
When most people think of trying a workout program to help them lose weight they probably picture spending a lot of time performing aerobic workouts. While aerobic workouts certainly have value the truth is that the most effective thing you can do in order to lose weight and maintain a healthy body weight is to engage in resistance training workouts on a regular basis. Resistance training build muscle, which will raised your metabolism, which in turn causes you to burn more calories when you are at rest. As you know one of the most important aspects of losing weight is creating a calorie deficit. By carrying more muscle you will help to move the needle in the right direction by boosting the natural fat burning power of your body.
Now you may be thinking that you don’t have time to go to the gym so you don’t have time to engage in regular resistance training exercises. Well if that is how you are thinking then I’m happy to tell you that you are wrong. You don’t need to go to the gym to workout, in fact you can get results that are just as good or better than the gym working out at home. You can do push ups, pull ups, sit ups, body weight dips, and lunges to get in a great workout. The key to getting in a great muscle building workout using only body weight is to use perfect form and to do a lot of repetitions.
One general rule of thumb that most weight trainers will tell you is that they try to put together a workout training program that enables them to get in a great workout without having to spend hours in the gym. One great way to do that is to workout opposing muscle groups together. For example you could do push ups and pull ups on the same day.
While you are resting from your push up set you can do pull ups since they use the opposite muscles. This allows you to keep the workout moving, which benefits you by keeping your heart rate up, and also by taking less time to finish. If you are thinking that push ups are too hard then try doing them on your knees instead of your toes. If pull ups are too hard then use a chair to assist yourself. You don’t have to kill yourself here, as long as you are working hard then you are doing what you need to do to reach your goals.
If you do decide to go to the gym or to get weights to train with at home it’s important to know the amount of weight and repetition range you should be aiming for. You may not know it but there’s more to going to the gym and lifting than simply picking up a pair of dumbbells and pressing them. You need a plan, and the plan you choose to follow should be made with a specific goal in mind. For example if you are trying to bulk up then you would want to use fairly heavy weights and do low numbers of repetition. On the other hand if you are trying to lose weight and tone up then you should try doing moderate weights and high repetitions.
Another important thing to keep in mind is that you need to give your body plenty of rest when you are working out.
Many people think that if an hour of weight training every other day is good, then two hours everyday must be better. Unfortunately that’s not how this works. Your body doesn’t build muscle while you are working out, it builds muscle during recover. That means that if you are not giving your body time to repair and rebuild then you are going to be slowing down your progress. As a general rule of thumb you should train each body part once a week, and you should weight train at most every other day. Doing this will enable you to maximize your gains while minimizing the amount of time you spend in the gym working out.
You should also keep in mind that you need to change up your workouts pretty frequently.
Have you ever noticed that after a few months of doing the same workouts that they become easier over time? The reason for that is that the human body has a remarkable ability to adapt to the training you put it through. So if you do push ups three times a week for a few months, you will start to notice that you aren’t sore anymore and that you don’t seem to be making any more gains. That’s because your body is no longer challenged. So as a general rule of thumb try to switch your workout up every few months to make sure that your body is still responding to the challenges you are exposing it to.
The Value Of Aerobic Training In A Weight Loss Program
While resistance training should be the backbone of any solid weight loss program that doesn’t mean that aerobic training doesn’t have it’s place as well. While resistance training should be undertaken three or four times a week at most, you can engage in aerobic exercise every day. The other great thing about aerobic exercise you should keep in mind is the fact that you can engage in a wide range of different activities in order to get the results you want. As long as you are getting your heart rate up, then what you are doing is working. So go for a brisk walk, a jog, a swim, a bike ride, or even play a sport. If you are having trouble catching your breath then whatever you are doing is working.
Now just because you can engage in aerobic exercise on a more frequent basis than you can engage in resistance training this doesn’t mean that you can simply go out and run 5 miles everyday. What you have to do is make sure you are listening to your body. If you get up one day and you are sore and don’t feel like going out for a run then listen to your body. Your body may need a break and there’s nothing wrong with allowing it to get one. Now this can very easily turn into a convenient excuse so make sure that you don’t skip training unless you really do need to.
Another thing to keep in mind about aerobic exercise is that it tends to be more high impact in nature. This can be problematic for people with joint issues, which is honestly something that comes with aging. If you want to avoid the unnecessary wear and tear on your joints them opt for low impact, high intensity aerobic training instead. You can burn just as many calories, if not more, by going on a swim or a bike rid instead of a run. So don’t punish your joints and take it easy on them if they are sore or acting up.
Tips For Sticking To Your Diet
Without a doubt the hardest part of a weight loss plan for most people is sticking to a diet long term. It’s a challenge, and it’s one you are going to have to meet if you want to reach your goals. The problem here is that without a solid diet then no other changes you are making in your life will be enough to help you to get healthy and reach your ideal body weight.
So how can you avoid cheating on your diet all the time? You do it by cheating on your diet once in a while.
This is basically a way to give yourself a mental break from the strict dieting that you are undertaking. If you let yourself have a few cookies, or a slice of pie, or some other treat every once in a while, then you will be less likely to give up on your diet altogether.
Another great tip to keep in mind is that just because you are eating healthy does not mean that you cannot enjoy the foods you are eating. There are a lot of great tasting foods out there that are good for you, all you need to do is find them. For example when you find yourself dying for a sweet treat why not have some berries? Or if you get hungry try a cup of Greek Yogurt, it’s surprisingly filling. The point here is that you should experiment with different healthy foods to find combinations that you enjoy. If you are willing to spend some time doing it you should be able to eat healthy while still loving snack and meal time.
Maintaining the willpower it takes to stick to a diet long term can be hard. One big thing that often works against people is their obsession with the scale. When you are on a weight loss program and you aren’t seeing any changes when you step on the scale, this is naturally distressing. It’s even more distressing if you are gaining weight instead of losing it. What you need to do is to remember that you will probably end up gaining weight at first because you are building muscle. Over time you weight gain will stop and then you will start to lose the body fat that you need to shed. Losing weight isn’t just a matter of weighing less, it’s a matter of losing the right kind of body mass. That kind of body mass is fat.
Instead of focusing on what the scale says try taking a picture in the mirror on day 1 of your new healthy eating and dieting program. Then in a week take another, and continue to do this going forward. It’s really hard to see a difference in our own appearance because we see ourselves on a daily basis. But when you take a picture and then compare it to another one a month or two, or three later, you will be able to see the fruits of your labor. So don’t worry so much about how much you weigh, if you are seeing a positive change in how you look then you are making progress.
Chapter 5: Conclusion
When the day comes that you look in the mirror and realize that you don’t like what you see, that is often the day that you, and anyone else coming to that kind of realization will realize that a change needs to be made. Looking at your reflection you need to avoid feeling shame, instead you should see an opportunity. You should see an opportunity to improve your life and to look your best. What’s more is you should feel grateful that you have been able to take notice of this because not everyone does. A lot of people go through their lives not realizing that they are living in a very unhealthy way, that’s a group you no longer have to be counted among once you realize that you need to make healthier choices in life.
The biggest problem with society today is a combination of a poor diet and a lack of exercise for a big portion of the population. People simply did not evolve to have access to calorie rich foods whenever we get hungry. Make no mistake about it either we do have access to food day and night. We can just go to the refrigerator in the middle of the night when hunger strikes and viola, there’s food. Or there’s the drive thru on the way home, or the grocery store to restock supplies. The point here is that we can get food at the drop of a hat, and that is a concern.
The other half of the equation has to be the lack of activity and the largely sedentary lifestyle that a lot of people have. While people that perform physical labor for a living get some benefit, those with desk jobs pretty much spend their day doing very little physical activity. When it’s time to go home there are smart phones, and tablets, and laptops, and gaming consoles, and of course the almighty television. In fact with satellite and streaming services television has a stronger pull than ever on us. With all of these electronic forms of entertainment permeating our lives it’s no wonder that a lot of people don’t come close to getting the amount of exercise that they need.
One thing that you really need to focus on is the fact that you must be patient with yourself and give your body time to lose weight.
You cannot get good results in a short amount of time unless you are willing to take potentially dangerous shortcuts. Not only are taking shortcuts dangerous, in the end they don’t work and you will probably end up gaining more weight than you had lost. So instead of trying to take shortcuts take your time, be patient, and be consistent with your efforts. A simple, even boring routine that you follow day in and day out is exactly what you need to have in order to build healthy habits and stick to them. It may not be exciting but being consistent is the best way to reach your goals.
The weight loss industry has grown to mammoth proportions, much like much of the population has. As more and more people realize that their weight is a major concern more and more people will be looking for solutions. As a society we demand progress and results quickly, that’s why so many people fall victim to these so called quick fixes. The reality is that there is no magic pill or secret diet that will allow you to lose weight without putting any effort into it. You allowed yourself to get to this point so you really have nobody else to blame except the person looking back at you in the mirror.
So now it’s up to you to accept that you have a problem and start working toward a solution.
You can do it, but you have to believe in yourself and you have to really want it. Change isn’t easy, but it’s necessary if you really want to be healthy and live a long life. You have probably spent a lifetime building bad eating and exercise habits, and when these habits are at the foundation of who you are then they can be a major challenge to overcome. But you can do it as long as you understand what you need to do and you are willing to put in the work. Losing weight ultimately comes down to making smart choices about your diet, your exercise, and what types of healthy supplements that you use to help you on your journey.
